Solar Tracker System

Writer: Zakaria EL MLILAHZakaria EL MLILAH

In 2022, I participated with a team of 3 members (including me) in the local competition of robotics (CNR), which was organized by our club mechatronics at ENSA TETOUAN. The competition aimed to challenge teams to build a solar tracker system that directs the solar panels towards the sun.

My Role

As a member of the team, I was responsible for designing the solar tracker system using Blender and Catia v5.

I worked on the overall shape of the project using Blender and then created a detailed model using Catia v5.

Working principle

  • The solar tracker system we built was based on a simple working principle. The platform on which the solar panel was positioned had four photoresistors that captured the amount of light falling on them.

  • These photoresistors generated resistive signals, which were then sent to the microcontroller ARDUINO NANO.

  • The microcontroller analyses these signals and controls the 2 servo motors, which then directed the solar panel towards where the intensity of light was higher.
