Camera Stabilizer

Writer: Zakaria EL MLILAHZakaria EL MLILAH

In 2022, I had the opportunity to participate in the National competition of robotics (CNR) with a team of 4 members (including myself).

The competition was organized by our club mechatronics at ENSA TETOUAN and aimed to challenge teams to build a camera stabilizer robot that keeps the camera platform stable in 3 axes during movements.

My Role

As a member of the team, I was responsible for designing the camera stabilizer using Blender and Catia v5.

I worked on the overall shape of the project using Blender and then created a detailed model using Catia v5.

While we had planned to print the design using a 3D printer, we initially faced difficulties finding one that was available to us. However, with the help of one of our professors, we were able to obtain access to a 3D printer and complete the printing of the design.

Working Principle

The camera stabilizer we built was based on an electronic gyroscope that detects the position of the camera platform and sends information to the ESP32 microcontroller.

The ESP32 then sends commands to the 3 servo motors to turn the platform and adjust it in a way that keeps it stable during movements.

Additionally, we included an Android app that enabled manual control of the camera stabilizer.

Outcome

Our camera stabilizer robot won the competition, and it was a proud moment for us as a team. We were thrilled to see our hard work and dedication pay off in such a tangible way.
